Giti Math and Science Award – Inspiring Tomorrow’s Innovators

Elementary School Team Winners of Giti Award

Giti Tire, which has a manufacturing plant in Chester County, South Carolina, is encouraging local students' interest in math and science.

RICHBURG, SOUTH CAROLINA, USA, April 18, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- For the 2nd year in a row, Giti Tire sponsored a Math and Science competition at the Chester County School District, South Carolina.

Chester Park Center of Literacy Through Technology won the elementary division. Great Falls Middle School and Great Falls High School won in their divisions. The winning teams were announced during an awards ceremony at the Gateway Conference Center in Richburg, SC.

The competition projects were:
• Elementary school team – Eclipse Emulator, a look at the stars and solar system to support earth science, as well as general scientific and engineering practices.

• Middle school team – Micro-Drone Lift, tied with the forces and motion curriculum and supporting physical science and engineering principles.

• High school team – Wind Power, supporting the interactions and energy curriculum and using physics, general science and engineering principles.

“The program’s mission is to create interest, excitement and encourage the development and use of scientific discipline to help prepare children for jobs in our ever-increasing technological society,” said Hank Eisenga, vice president of manufacturing for Giti Tire Manufacturing (USA) Ltd. “We were thrilled by the student’s participation in this year’s contest and very impressed by the quality of all the entries.”

The competing schools were:
Elementary schools:
• Lewisville Elementary
• Great Falls Elementary
• Chester Park School of Arts
• Chester Park COLT
• Chester Park School of Inquiry
Middle schools:
• Lewisville Middle
• Chester Middle
• Great Falls Middle
High schools:
• Lewisville High
• Chester High
• Great Falls High

The entries were judged on: design, written report, collaboration, presentation with a clear use of math and science in the process.

Students apply at the beginning of the school year to become a member of the Giti Math and Science club. The club meets at least 12 times between September and April.

The 1.7 million-square-foot Giti manufacturing facility in Richburg began producing passenger and light truck tires for the U.S. market in late 2017.
