Angola: President Obasanjo arrives in Luanda

Luanda, ANGOLA, December 18 - Former President Olusegun Obasanjo arrived Monday afternoon in Luanda on a private visit for a few hours and scheduled a courtesy meeting with the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço.,

 

The former Nigerian statesman was received at the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Téte António, with whom he talked for thirty minutes in one of the rooms of the Protocol of State of the airport.

As President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo met several times, both in Abuja and in Luanda, with the then Angolan counterpart, José Eduardo dos Santos.

Of Yorubá ethnicity converted to Christianity, Obasanjo was military, having been elected, in 1999, the president of the Republic position that he held until 2007.

The Republics of Angola and the Federal Republic of Nigeria have excellent relations dating back to the 1960s, at the time of the independence struggles.

In recent years there has been a significant increase, especially in the political, economic, diplomatic, social, cultural and military affairs.

The two countries are members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), of which Nigeria is rotating president, and both hold periodic sessions of the Bilateral Commission, where they analyze and discuss cooperation.
