30 years ago (1995)

(Photos) A memorial service noting the 53rd anniversary of the fall of Bataan will be held April 9 at the Brainerd Armory. Several survivors of the Death March (including three pictured here) are expected to attend. Included will be the dedication of an M3A1 Stuart Tank, the model used to defend Bataan.

40 years ago (1985)

Charitable gambling may soon become a major source of funds for Brainerd Amateur Hockey. The county board approved a license application for the group to conduct gambling at the Waterfall Inn. The hockey group also has applications in at Jeff's Bar in Brainerd and Vilo Lanes in Baxter.

60 years ago (1965)

80 years ago (1945)

(Edit.) The public will be fascinated to know that Vol. 3 of the “Federal Power Commission Reports” is off the press in Washington, DC. It comes in at a size of 1,180 pages! Be sure to save every scrap of paper you can in the next war salvage drive. Some of it might be needed for Vol. 4 of the “Commission Reports.”

100 years ago (1925)

The body of Joseph Tutch, missing since last November 16, was found frozen in the ice of Gladstone Lake yesterday. Tutch had left the house that night with a lantern, telling his wife he was going to the barn to feed the horses. He was never seen again. The body was recovered and brought to Brainerd for burial.
