Randox Health Grand National hopeful Seeyouatmidnight has seen his hopes of his seasonal return scuppered by the weather again.

And trainer Sandy Thomson is hoping for some help from the British Horseracing Authority to get his 10-year-old back on the road to Aintree Racecourse.

The 10-year-old, who is a best-priced 33-1 with Ladbrokes, William Hill, Coral and Unibet for the world's greatest steeplechase, has been off the track with injury for more than a year.

This season any Grand National entrant will be deemed not eligible to line-up if they haven't run over fences during this season.

Seeyouatmidnight is fit again and has been ready to make his chasing return for the past few months. But that comeback has been scuppered by the weather over the past month as Kelso, Doncaster and now Carlisle on Sunday have all abandoned.

The Scottish trainer said: "It's a complete nightmare.

"The Premier Chase at Kelso was called off twice, there was the veterans' chase at Doncaster and now Carlisle is off today, so that's four races we've missed.

"I'm hopeful the BHA are going to put something on this Thursday. We've obviously had a few meetings abandoned in the north now and they need to run a qualifier for the veterans' final at Sandown."

If there is no new fixture in the north this week, Thomson will have to send his stable star down south next weekend.

He added: "If they have a meeting on Thursday that would be the best case scenario. Otherwise we might have to go for the two-and-a-half-mile 0-150 handicap chase at Newbury next Saturday or the veterans' chase at Ascot next Sunday.

"We'll just have to wait and see what happens. We need a race and if we have to go south we will.

"We still just have enough time, but you wouldn't want to leave it any later than next weekend."

Meanwhile Minella Rocco will head straight for the Grand National after missing Friday's Timico Cheltenham Gold Cup at the Cheltenham Festival due to unsuitably soft ground.

Jonjo O'Neill's eight-year-old was second in last year's Gold Cup behind Sizing John but ahead of this year's winner Native River, who was third.

After missing Cheltenham, the JP McManus-owned Minella Rocco - who is a best-priced 25-1 with Ladbrokes - will now head to Aintree on April 14 without another run.

O'Neill said: "The ground was going to be no good for him in the Gold Cup really as he wants nice ground.

"He is in good form at home and the plan is to go to Aintree now for the Grand National.

"Hopefully the ground will dry out between now and then and they will get nice ground up there."

Minella Rocco is a general 20-1 shot for the Grand National on April 14.
