Volvo continued the retool of its lineup with the Chicago debut of the new Volvo S90 luxury sedan this week at that city’s Auto Show. First unveiled to media in December, the S90 features a low, wide stance, increased safety features and a focus on luxury inside the cabin.

Volvo is vaunting the new front-end look of the S90, which is centered on a concave grille and distinctive T-shaped headlights. For its occupants, however, the focus lies inside the cabin, which features a redesigned dashboard and instrument panel, premium upholstery and materials and a further integration of state-of-the-art tech features. These include cloud-based applications, as well as a solid roster of collision-avoidance technologies that are fast becoming the norm on higher-end and even lower-end vehicles.

The S90 joins the already-launched XC90 SUV as part of Volvo’s program to re-tool its entire lineup, with one of the stated goals being to have the rate of people seriously injured or killed in a Volvo reach 0% by the year 2020. Dubbed Vision 2020 by the carmaker, the plan revolves around the integration of just-developed or in-development  semi-autonomous driving features.
